The Ronald and Margaret Willey Endowment honours the memory of Ronald Derek Willey and his wife, Margaret.

Ronald Derek Willey was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on February 11, 1930, and passed away in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, on October 7, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Willey, who was born on October 20, 1933, and passed away on June 8, 2011.

Ron began his career in social work in Saskatchewan before becoming a teacher in Edmonton. He taught for many years, primarily history, a subject he loved throughout his life. He was remembered as an exceptional teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of geopolitical history and an enthusiasm that inspired his students.

This endowment reflects the Willeys’ appreciation for education and the lasting impact that dedicated teachers can have on the lives of others.

Receipts for taxation purposes can be provided by emailing a copy of your deposit receipt to info@shuswapfoundation.ca.

A gift of publicly traded securities can be an attractive option. The Income Tax Act provides that capital gains on securities donated to a charity are exempt from tax, but the donor will receive a tax receipt for the full appreciated value. You will receive a tax receipt for the value of the stock at the time of transfer, and may carry forward for up to five years any unused portions of the gift.
