COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN

PRESERVING HERITAGE, BUILDING COMMUNITY

Located in the heart of Salmon Arm, 31 Hudson Ave NE is more than just a street address — it is a cherished piece of our local history.

Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) has a vision to purchase and fully revitalize this beloved heritage building and its surrounding outdoor spaces, preserving its charm while creating a lasting, functional asset for generations to come. To make this vision a reality, we are launching a capital campaign to raise the funds necessary for its complete transformation.

Our Campaign Goal: $1,450,000

31 Hudson Ave NE: A Legacy Worth Preserving

HISTORY & VISION

This beloved historic building has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly a century:

  • Civic Roots: Constructed in 1928 by local builder William Reader, it served as Salmon Arm’s original, permanent municipal hall.
  • Architectural Charm: The Arts and Crafts influenced design incorporates brick thought to be sourced from the local Enderby brickyard.
  • Heritage Status: Recognizing its local historic, aesthetic, and social value, the building is listed on the BC Register of Historic Places.
  • Historic Hub: The property forms a historic “civic precinct” alongside the old Court House and Post Office (now the Salmon Arm Art Gallery).
  • Community Connection: For many years, the building served the community as the Seniors Drop-In Centre.

CONNECTING DONORS WHO CARE WITH CAUSES THAT MATTER

Connecting Community with Opportunity

At Shuswap Community Foundation, we use invested earnings from growing endowment funds to provide grants to Shuswap non-profits. This revitalization project is deeply aligned with one of our cause pillars, arts, culture and heritage, and our long-term goals of growth and impact. By transforming 31 Hudson Ave NE, we are creating an accessible, barrier-free hub where every community member feels welcomed and included. The functional workspace will help us better serve our donors, support local initiatives, and deepen our community impact.

  • Universal Accessibility: Upgrading the building and grounds to ensure the space is fully accessible, welcoming, and safe for all members of our community.
  • Active Transportation & Amenities: Installing a new, secure bike locker to encourage active, eco-friendly transit, alongside shaded community picnic tables for gathering.
  • Vibrant Outdoor Spaces: Incorporating drought-tolerant xeriscaping to create a beautiful community oasis in the heart of Salmon Arm.
  • Modernized Interiors: Creating a purpose-driven, highly functional workspace that will empower Shuswap Community Foundation to expand our philanthropic impact.

As Chair of the Board, I am incredibly proud to introduce the next chapter for 31 Hudson Ave NE and Shuswap Community Foundation. This capital campaign is about much more than acquiring property; it is a strategic investment in the future of Salmon Arm and the broader Shuswap region. By revitalizing this historic space, we are securing a permanent, dedicated home that will empower us to better serve our community for decades to come. We have set an ambitious goal of $1,450,000, and with the incredible momentum generated by our seed funders and community partners, I am confident we will achieve it. Thank you for sharing in our vision, for your generosity, and for your unwavering dedication to the place we call home.

JOHN WHITE, Board Chair

Shuswap Community Foundation is thrilled to secure a permanent home in the core of Salmon Arm. This purchase will give us the space to better serve the Shuswap, while simultaneously revitalizing a historic landmark that our community values. I believe so deeply that this direction serves the best interests of our community members, donors, beneficiaries and the future of our work that my husband and I are among the seed funders that have already stepped up to support this campaign. Heritage is a core pillar of the Foundation, and restoring 31 Hudson Ave NE aligns perfectly with our mission.
